The Aphex Twin Classics Mike Dred's earliest records appeared on Rephlex — Aphex Twin's own label. Overmind (2022) is the same project thirty years on, the same 303 vocabulary applied with the same disregard for convention. -
Plastikman Musik Plastikman's acid lineage and Mike Dred's share the same origin — the Roland TB-303 taken as far as it will go, the squelch treated as a melodic instrument with its own internal logic.
Mike Dred has been making acid-techno records since the early 1990s, initially on Rephlex — Aphex Twin’s Cornish imprint — and later through his own channels. Overmind (2022) is the most recent document of the same project: the Roland TB-303 at its outer limits, the squelch treated less as texture than as a melodic instrument.
The Kosmik Kommando name appeared across thirty years of records without attracting the profile it deserved — partly because the music was genuinely extreme, too rhythmically aggressive for most ambient listeners and too texturally strange for most techno DJs, occupying a gap between categories that had no settled name for it. Overmind sits alongside the Aphex Classics material as two ends of a thirty-year conversation about what the acid sound could be made to do.
