Handsome Boy Modeling School So... How's Your Girl? So… How's Your Girl? is the first Handsome Boy record — White People is the expansion, the full version of the same project with a larger and stranger guest list. -
Wu-Tang Clan Enter The Wu-Tang (36 Chambers) RZA appears on White People — Prince Paul and RZA had formed Gravediggaz together in 1994, and this record closes that loop explicitly by putting both of them on the same track. -
Beastie Boys Paul's Boutique Mike D of the Beastie Boys appears on White People — another node in the same pre-litigation plunderphonics world that Paul's Boutique represents.
RZA, Cat Power, Alex Kapranos of Franz Ferdinand, Chester Bennington, El-P, Pharrell, John Oates, Cedric Bixler-Zavala of the Mars Volta, Mike Patton. That’s Paul’s brain in album form. White People (2004) is the Handsome Boy project at full sprawl — the same conceit as So… How’s Your Girl?, applied to a guest list that spans every register of rock, hip-hop, and art-pop simultaneously.
RZA’s appearance specifically closes the loop that Prince Paul opened in 1994 when he and RZA formed Gravediggaz together — the horrorcore supergroup that connected Stetsasonic’s lineage to Wu-Tang’s, briefly, before each went back to their separate projects. Paul and RZA on the same record again is the supergroup reunion that no one quite noticed as such.
